A Note of Thanks
We are indebted to many pastors, family members and friends from around the world who have been praying for us. We sincerely thank you for upholding us in your prayer and for all of your encouragement.
We hope that you will have a few minutes to read the following to get a better sense of just how much your prayer has helped us.
There are no words that can adequately capture what we faced in 2010.
We experienced a multitude of extremely frustrating moments and challenges with our health. The total number of trips to the emergency for our family hit 22. We have lost count of the number of trips that we had to the doctor’s office and all the medical tests that have been done. Doctors and specialists are still at a loss over all that took place. Our faith was put to the test, and we struggled to make sense of it all.
From January right through to December, we faced health problem after health problem, and we have no answers. It was the most difficult year of our lives.
One incident that left us at a loss for words happened before our fifth wedding anniversary in May. We rushed to emerg because I had unexplainably lost all blood circulation in my ring finger (and my ring finger only)…and it had turned blue. The nurses handed Quinton a saw and asked him to cut off my wedding ring…it was either the ring or they would have had to amputate my finger…so he cut the ring off.
We shed rivers and rivers of tears as we desperately tried to navigate our way through such thick haze in such a dark, vast valley. But I thank God for blessing me with a husband who so strongly believed that the Lord would see us through. The times when I didn’t have the strength to pray, he prayed us through and proclaimed God’s promises over our lives. And the times when we both struggled to find words to pray, Ish would hold our hands and sing a line from his favourite hymn again and again and again: “Grace, Grace, God’s Grace”.
All hurdles and challenges aside; we are amazed at how much the Lord has helped us to accomplish in a year that was filled with countless struggles. We began to see the fulfillment of dreams that have been on the backburner for years. Skills that we had acquired so long ago for interest sake alone were utilized to help better lives in various projects. He enabled us to move from level to level. To God be all glory!
As incredibly difficult as it has been to trace His hand in all those trying times, He is ever present. The moments when we felt so alone, we felt His peace all around us and we received strength to endure these times. We began to dig deeper into the Bible, which has helped us to become aware and remind ourselves of His promises that He will never forsake us. We felt strengthened and more determined to hold on.
Regardless of how difficult it was to go through those tough times, including when the wedding ring had to be cut off, we thank God for causing our love for each other to grow stronger each day. We know without a doubt that this is a direct result of the fact that we have always asked Jesus to be the centre of our lives, our marriage and our family.
So what about all of the challenges? It is true that more questions still remain than answers, and some issues appear to be far from over. However; after we took some time aside to consider all that we had walked through, we began to realize how the Lord protected us from several life-threatening situations. The hand of God literally moved us out of harm’s way again and again, and redirected us onto the road where we could overcome all of these challenges and experience Him at a deeper level. We are very grateful for His hand upon our lives.
Though the storms rage, the oceans rise, the waves surge and the winds blow, the Lord has sustained us and preserved our lives, and we believe that He will continue to do so.
As much as we wanted 2010 to end as each month dragged on causing more pain and frustration, we will always remember the year where we have learned so much about the love, grace, comfort and peace of God that has sustained us.
Today, we are able to hold our head up and say that we walked through the fire in 2010, but it did not burn us and the flames did not consume us.
As we progress into 2011, we believe that the hair on our heads will not be singed and that we will not even smell of smoke. He goes ahead of us so we have no reason to fear what lies ahead. We are not forgotten.
We went through fire and through water; But You, Oh God, brought us out to rich fulfillment (Psalm 66:12).
If you are at a difficult moment in your life; don’t lose hope. Your breakthrough is near; trust Him!
