Two weeks after Jesus healed Rathi, she was out having fun with her family at Winterlude 2011!

Today, we’re celebrating one month since my healing! My health and life have been completely restored as of January 23rd, 2011. I am sure that the details below will baffle you as much as it has amazed everyone around me, including the team of medical professionals that was assigned to my case…correction: my former case!

The Lord has been so good to us. We are in awe of His wondrous works.

I really have no words to express how I feel about this incredible miracle. Please read on and find out why!

Part I: The accident

On Sept. 21, 2010, I slipped and fell on a grease spill on tiles near the cafeteria at work. It was a really awkward fall and I thought nothing of it at the time, but throughout the day, I began to develop severe pain in my back and both legs, as well as swelling. As a result, I was hunched over and limping. The pain in my left leg was intense. My doctor prescribed strong pain killers and anti-inflammatory medications, and told me to stay off work. She suspected a fracture in my left ankle, but that was ruled out after a series of x-rays. I also began physiotherapy. As I continued to complain about increasing pain and swelling, my doctor kept increasing the dosage for my pain killers. A week later, my doctor prescribed codeine and more anti-inflammatory medication, but nothing helped.

I was unable to take care of Ishmerai, my two year old son. I was forbidden to carry him because of my back problems. My husband, Quinton, had to take care of all of us, his fulltime job, and housekeeping from A to Z.

After three weeks of staying at home in bed (apart from medical appointments), I was fed up of lying in bed and staring at the bedroom walls, so I begged my doctor to allow me to return to work. She reluctantly agreed to allow me to work modified hours, which I struggled with between Oct. and Nov. Some days were better than others as I continued on potent medications and pain treatment at physio. But as the pain and swelling worsened by the day, it became more difficult for me to work more than an hour or two at a time before I had to go home, take more pain killers, and rest. I became more and more hunched over, and I began to limp even more and dragged my left leg as I walked.

During this time, I began to experience what felt like electrical current, radiating from my lower back to my leg. Sometimes, it felt like there was boiling water on my left leg. At other times, my left leg felt ice cold. Often, I had sporadic loss of sensation between my knees and ankles. I began to feel these weird sensations in my back as well. Eventually it became so difficult that I couldn’t even work or stay in one position for more than a few minutes at a time. Moving from one position to another became unbearable too.

I visited my doctor several times a week from September, and she was quite concerned about the increase in pain, swelling, and the strange sensations that I was experiencing. She referred me to a specialist, but by the time I had my first appt, I had lost sensation in my toes and 75% of my left foot. I was unable to place my left foot flat on the ground. So I limped on the side of my left foot (imagine the pinky toe side of the left foot on the ground, with the rest of the foot elevated in the air)…because I couldn’t most of my foot to put it flat on the ground…yes, it was crazy!

My doctor and specialist were in agreement that I should not work, and that I needed to remain on bedrest (except for medical appointments) until they figured out what was going on. Since Dec. 2, I was not allowed to drive because of the medications that I had to take (codeine, nerve medications, anti-inflammatory meds, etc.), and WSIB (workplace insurance) gave me taxi services to and from my medical and physio appts, which were pretty much every day. I started feeling the same weird sensation in my right leg and back as well. I had discolouration in my skin also.

My specialist sent me in for a slew of medical tests, and just before Christmas 2010, I had a total of 22 x-rays, 5 MRIs and bone scans, which showed that I had a slipped disk and bulging around disks in my lower back. What worried the doctors the most was the nerve issues. My specialist examined me and considered the progression of pain and swelling, as well as loss of sensation. He diagnosed the strange symptoms as complex regional pain syndrome; my awkward fall had caused nerve damage of some kind. Considering the strange sensations that I felt in various areas of my body, he talked to me about the strong chances that I would experience more loss of sensation over time. They felt that the loss of sensation may affect my mobility over time. Just after I went through all of the medical testing in December, I lost sensation in my lower back to the left of my spine as well. At that point, my doctor, specialist and physiotherapist said that they did not know what was happening or how to make it stop.

The medications did very little to help me cope with the ever-increasing pain. I had a severe reaction to one of my nerve medications, and while the doctors wanted me to try various drugs, my doctor was also preparing to switch my codeine prescription to morphine. All they could do was suppress my pain with medications by increasing the dosage, but there was nothing they could do to reverse the nerve issues that was worsening so quickly. Pain management was all that they could offer to me. WSIB and my Human Resources personnel at work started talking about switching me over to long-term disability considering the number of days that I was already off of work.

My doctor, specialist and physiotherapist were all in agreement that I needed to see a neurologist and pain specialist as soon as possible, plus have a CT scan done also. Most of my appointments were booked for February 2011.

Needless to say that I was devastated when my doctor and specialist told me what my life would look like…indefinitely. I was unable to take care of my family and myself for that matter. Most days, I was clonked out on pain killers and trying to cope with the intense pain, and the slew of adverse side-effects from my medications. My interaction with Ish was limited to reading storybooks and colouring with him while in bed. I felt useless in every way. I spent days and nights crying. We had experienced a slew of horrible challenges in 2010 (as you may have read about in our first blogpost), and now this.

Part II: 4 months and 2 days later…Sunday, Jan. 23, 2011

On Sunday, Jan. 23, 2011, everything changed. It was minus 27 (windchill in the mid -30s) here in Ottawa. We were thinking about staying home and not going to church, but Ish grabbed a pair of his jeans, and said “let’s go, church-church”. So to avoid the incoming tantrum, we got dressed and drove to our church: Woodvale Pentecostal Church (Ottawa, ON, Canada)

During the service, I was in such excruciating pain that I thought I had to lie down on the pew. Our Pastor spoke about Faith Levels (audio of Jan. 23rd sermon). After the sermon, our Pastor asked anyone in need of prayer for healing to come forward at the end of the service. I literally had to put all of my weight on Quinton as he helped me limp to the front. One of our pastors prayed for us, and we turned around to return to our seat.

Quinton asked me to walk back slowly while he went to pick up Ish from the nursery. I felt that it was easier for me to walk. When I got back to my pew, I started to feel this warm numbing sensation – I can only explain it as numbing – all over my spine. I was in so much shock that I couldn’t move. Quinton returned with Ish and tapped me on the shoulder. I told him that I was feeling something strange in my back. He said: we’ll keep praying, maybe God is doing something. So we gathered up our things and walked to the car. I felt like I didn’t have to put much effort into my walking as I used to.

For four months, I had been leaning forward (literally pushing the seatbelt forward) while sitting in the car. All the way home, I was telling Quinton about this strange feeling in my back. All of a sudden, I sat back against the seat of the car! First time in four months! Quinton almost drove off the road in shock! He asked me if I felt any pain and I told him that all I could feel was the strange sensation in my back.

We got home, and what would usually take a couple of minutes to get out of the car was only a couple of seconds because I opened the door, jumped out and stood up straight! I had NO pain! I started screaming, and Quinton came around to the passenger side of the car to find out why I was freaking out. He started crying when he saw me standing up straight! He asked me to take some steps forward, but I was still limping on the pinky toe side of my left foot. So Quinton asked me to try and put all of my weight on it, and I slowly did, and then I could feel my toes and feet again!!

By that time, I was hysterically crying and after trying to walk around the garage, we made our way into the house. I sprinted up four flights of stairs to the bedroom!! I had no pain! I kept racing up and down the stairs. Not only that, but I was able to bend backwards and forwards, jump up and down, and I had no pain!!

I picked up Ish and his jaw dropped. He giggled and hugged me. He was the happiest kid on earth! And for the rest of the evening, I chased him around the house! I didn’t take a single painkiller! I went cold turkey on all the drugs! I did not need it. Jesus healed me! Praise God!

Part III: Since my healing…

The next day (Jan. 24, 2011), I went to physio, and my physiotherapist and kinesiologist were baffled! Just 2 days earlier, I had come to the clinic by taxi and was hunched over in so much pain, and that Monday, I drove myself and WALKED IN to the clinic! I told them what happened and they couldn’t believe their eyes. They got me to speedwalk on the treadmill for 10 minutes! I had no pain, and they didn’t have to do any treatment! They asked me to see my family doctor right away because they had no explanation for this.

I went to my family doctor and she nearly fell off her chair when she saw me! Just a week before she had filled out a progress report to WSIB (workplace insurance) that I was unable to sit, stand, walk, or take care of myself, and that I would need to be on bedrest indefinitely. She couldn’t believe it! She assessed me and when I showed her all that I could do, she said: “I never believed in miracles, but this definitely is one. Man, your church is the place to be!!”

Then my doctor filled out a new progress report stating that my issues were completely resolved, and that I did not require a gradual return to work program, or any pain treatment or medication. She cancelled all further medical testing and specialist appts, and she cleared me to return to work fulltime the next morning!! She requested that I be switched into an intensive workout program at physio so that they could observe my progress because of concerns over setbacks over time.

My case manager at WSIB was stunned. He received my family doctor’s report, and he couldn’t believe his eyes. He phoned me to say: you do realize that you have four reputed medical professionals in this city – two of whom we work with very closely – who are all absolutely baffled at your instant healing from this diagnosis. I feel like I’m staring at the reports of two different patients. I am absolutely stunned by your progress!

So Sunday, Jan. 23, I received my healing;
Monday, Jan. 24, my healing amazed my physiotherapist and kinesiologist;
Tuesday, Jan. 25, my healing baffled my family doctor, and
Wednesday, Jan. 26, I was back at work fulltime!!!

No pain! My family, friends, church family, colleagues and medical professionals who were assigned to my case are so amazed! News of my healing has travelled all over the world. Everyone is completely stunned at my recovery as many have seen me suffering with their own eyes. February 26th will be a full month since I returned to work and I feel wonderful. I am able to do everything I was able to before my accident, and more!

During my intensive workout program at physio, my kinesiologist and physiotherapist kept adding exercises to my routine to see what I could tolerate. They did not need to treat me for pain since my healing, not even once…not even an ice pack was required! By February 17th, I was exercising for well over an hour (on the treadmill, bike, doing floor exercises, etc)! Both my physiotherapist and kinesiologist completed their final assessment that day, and said that they have no doubt that I have been healed and that all of my health issues have been completely resolved. They released me from the program to continue exercising at home!

I haven’t had any pain treatment or medications since Jan. 23!! I had placed all of my medications in a ziploc bag and haven’t had to take it out since! My doctors and specialists phoned each other in shock over my instant recovery and ability to handle these exercises. As difficult as it is to comprehend this healing considering my diagnosis, all of them are so amazed! And, everyone is so thrilled over my complete recovery.

You can ask Quinton about how he feels about this. He told me that he felt like he was living with a stranger for four months. But now he is so grateful to finally have his wife back again. He cannot get over how much energy I have every day, and all the things that I am able to do. When God heals, it is complete and permanent! We still have our moments where the magnitude of this miracle hits us, and we celebrate with happy tears. It has been so overwhelming!

There is hope in God! Jesus is still in the business of doing miracles. And my life is proof that He heals diseases that don’t have a cure!

The cutest thing is that Ish wants me to carry him around; just because. Not only can I carry him, but I can do everything! I can do ALL THINGS through Christ who strengthens me!! I am living this verse! Glory to God!!!

God truly answers prayer! Never give up hope in Him!

p.s. I found out two weeks after my healing that they were finally able to get an appointment to see a neurosurgeon…at the end of June 2011! That appt has been cancelled, of course, because Jesus healed me on Sunday, January 23, 2011!!!

    • Hi Michael,

Praise God for what He has done! Thank you for writing to us. I’m still pinching myself over what has happened. I should be in bed on medications right now, but I’ve been pain-free ever since the day of my healing…4 months ago! It is only by God’s grace that I have my life back! Really appreciate that you are spreading the word about this. People need to know that there is hope in Jesus!
      Thanks and God bless you!

  9. My name is Ken and I had surgery just over a year ago to remove my prostate due to cancer. The Dr. told me that all of the cancer was removed safely then they threw me a but. They told me maybe we didn’t get all. People in the medical field (Doctors) seem to have an uncanny ability to talk out of both sides of their mouth at the same time. I ask again did you get all of the cancer and the Dr. said yes, but. The Dr. suggested that I be given female hormones for 2 years. Well, since I’ve been on the hormones I have had mood changes, hot flashes, night sweats along with really bad bouts of depression. I told Viola to take my guns out of the house and do not let me know where are.
I Googled “female hormone treatment for men” and found this treatment is extremely dangerous for it can cause bones to get weak, also can cause some heart problems.
Now I have said all of this to request that you pray for my complete healing. I am a Christian and we studied at Christ for the Nation in Dallas, Tx.We know that God’s word is powerful and God has a reason and time for everything.

    Praise the Lord

    • Hi Bro. Ken,

Thank you so much for being so open about your journey. It is incredibly challenging to make sense of a valley experience, but just remember that the Lord sees you. I am glad that you have documented this here, because I know that the Lord is going to do a mighty work in your life. An amazing testimony of His healing power is ahead. We will continue to stand with you in prayer. Every disease and infirmity must bow to the name of Jesus. Remain encouraged! God bless you and yours!

      With love,
      Quinton, Rathi & Ish
