The following post is my loving message to every woman.
May The Lord enlighten the eyes of your heart
to see your role in a new light.
(Please share this with every woman in your life.
Men are also most welcome to read and learn from this!)
In the early morning hours of Dec. 31, 2012, I had a dream that I was conversing with a beautiful angel.
Quinton, Ish and I were seated together with the angel around a café table. The angel leaned over to me and said, in a gentle, yet concerned tone:
“Who puts cream on Ish?”
I told the angel that Quinton applies lots of cream on him after his bath every night. I turned to look at Ish, and his skin glistened in the sunlight and looked very moisturized.
The angel asked me again, “Who puts cream on Ish?” And the angel looked into my eyes and immediately went on to say, “You need to put cream on him as well.”
Then, the angel lifted Ish’s arms, pointed, and said “See?”
When I peered over to see, I saw that the angel was pointing at the part of Ish’s ribcage that is usually hidden from sight when he places his arms by his side.
I looked more intently, and I gasped. I saw that the whole area was completely exposed flesh (without any skin).
The angel said, “See all of the parts like this that are not always visible at all times to the human eye? Focus on putting cream there.”
Then the angel lifted Ish’s feet up and showed me both of his soles, and said, “See? You need to apply cream there as well.” His soles also were exposed flesh.
I awoke from this dream with a deeply-entrenched burden to be more intentional in providing a covering of love, prayer and encouragement for my son.
Since the day that I found out I had conceived, I have prayed for Ish daily. But, I knew that God was urging me to take my intercession to another level. I knew that the cream represented an essential coating that is beyond what Ish’s father, grandparents, or anyone else could provide for him.
God was asking me to provide my child with a motherly covering.
An Unceasing Responsibility
The Scriptures describe a remarkable mother who continually provided a motherly covering for her beloved child:
18: But Samuel ministered before the LORD, being a child, girded with a linen ephod.
19: Moreover his mother made him a little robe, and brought it to him from year to year, when she came up with her husband to offer the yearly sacrifice.
20: And Eli blessed Elkanah and his wife, and said, The LORD give thee seed of this woman for the loan which is lent to the LORD. And they went unto their own home.
21: And the LORD visited Hannah, so that she conceived, and bare three sons and two daughters. And the child Samuel grew before the LORD.” (1 Samuel 2:18-21)
Hannah made a vow before God that if he were to bless her with a son, she would dedicate him to The Lord for all of his days. After years of barrenness and crying out to the Lord in deep anguish, Hannah was blessed with a beautiful boy named Samuel.
The Lord graciously called Samuel at a tender age, and he served in the Temple of God.
Year after year, Hannah brought a brand new, custom-fit robe that she handmade just for Samuel.
Can you imagine…
Can you imagine the love that overflowed from Hannah’s heart concerning her precious gift of a son from God?
I can visualize that with every thread that Hannah wove together with her own hands, this mother would say a prayer, speak words of blessing, and sing a song of love over her son that brought much joy to her life.
As the coat began to take shape, it represented much more than a physical shield from the elements. It was a spiritual covering of motherly love. This covering became a part of Samuel’s priestly garment as He served in the House of God.
For Hannah’s faithfulness, the Lord blessed her with more children: three sons and two daughters. And Samuel grew up in the presence of God!
Consider the Precious Children who need you!
There are so many precious children of all ages who are exposed to the elements day after day without a covering.
- Many babies are endangered in the womb from women involved in dangerous acts during pregnancy, such as substance abuse.
- Countless babies are brutally murdered by abortion for senseless reasons before they have a chance at taking their first breath.
- Scores of children and youth are living in hopelessness; facing mistreatment, violence, abuse, and the cruelty of humanity day after day.
It may be your own child, or a child in your social circle, who does not have a proper covering. You may not have carried a child in your own womb, but that is not a prerequisite for being a mother in this world. Children everywhere are in dire need of mothers who will provide them with a covering of love, prayer and encouragement.
This attribute of providing a covering precisely mirrors the motherly covering that Our Heavenly Father provides for each of us. He hides us under the shadow of His Wings.
I pray that The Lord will speak to your heart about fulfilling this critical responsibility for the children that God has placed in your life.
I know that the Lord gave me this dream to see my role in a new light.
I am called to cover my child, and every child that He has placed in my life, with love, prayer and encouragement over every area of their lives and at all times. In doing so, God will protect their lives from the ways of the world, especially the parts that are hidden from or not always visible to human eyes.
Dear beloved woman,
Look around you;
The Lord has placed many children in your sphere of influence
who need to be embraced and covered with
love, prayer and encouragement.
Just as Our Heavenly Father covers us under His Wings,
you can provide a special motherly covering for someone.
May The Lord help you to see your critical role in life.
Remember: Whether the child is young or not so young,
it is never too late for you to walk in this calling.
Happy Mother’s Day, Beautiful!
